800 MHz Rebanding
Overview:
Without anticipating the extensive growth of the cellular-type wireless systems, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) licensed radio frequencies to public safety organizations and to wireless companies in the same 800 MHz band. As areas became frequency-congested, public safety users increasingly experienced interference problems with the two groups of users operating in the same or adjacent spectrum bands. These problems caused primarily by Sprint Nextel Communications, cause public safety radio transmissions to fail without warning.
