DMS OFFICE OF SUPPLIER DIVERSITY PUBLISHES ANNUAL REPORT

~2007-08 annual report details nearly $3 billion in spending with minority businesses ~

TALLAHASSEE-The Department of Management Services (DMS) Office of Supplier Diversity (OSD) announced today in its 2007-08 annual report that government spending with Florida's minority business enterprises totaled nearly $3 billion during the last fiscal year. In 2007-08, OSD certified 4,118 women- and minority-owned businesses in Florida-an increase of nearly 400 from the previous year.

"Our report documents the Office of Supplier Diversity's success this year connecting Florida's vendors with Florida's spenders," said DMS Secretary Linda H. South. "The Service-Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise Opportunity Act took effect Nov. 11, 2008, and we certified the first service-disabled veteran-owned business that day, with 35 certified to date. Broadening the scope of certification and resources we offer, adds to Florida's recognition as a model supplier diversity program."

OSD is instrumental in identifying partners eager to work together to support Florida's women-, minority- and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses. OSD secured agreements with the state's Small Business Development Center Network, the Small Business Administration and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, demonstrating Florida's continued commitment to supplier diversity. Those alliances add to the education, consultation, technical assistance and funding minority business enterprises access through OSD.

"We improved our services this year through enhanced technology and processes, and continue our work to streamline the certification process for minority business owners so they can go about the business of their businesses," said OSD Executive Director Torey L. Alston. "Our office strives daily to increase efficiencies and deliver outstanding customer service across the state."

OSD is the state's official "matchmaker" for Florida's minority business enterprises, and works to improve business and economic opportunities for them.
