FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: LINDA MCDONALD (850) 921-5266 WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16, 2008 DMS OFFICE OF SUPPLIER DIVERSITY LAUNCHES VENDORSTRATOR ~ Proprietary software streamlines re-certification for minority business enterprises ~ TALLAHASSEE-The Florida Department of Management Services (DMS) Office of Supplier Diversity (OSD) announced today it launched the first phase of transition to online certification and recertification of minority business enterprises. The DMS team created Vendorstrator in follow-up to the commitment DMS Secretary Linda H. South made at the OSD 2007 MatchMaker event to minority vendors and members of the Florida Legislative Black Caucus. "As we streamline our certification processes, we also streamline our ability to measure what matters-in real time," said Secretary South. "With Vendorstrator we gain current counts of certified vendors, and when the program is fully implemented, we will know up to the minute which agencies and companies are spending, and how much, with those minority vendors." The release launched today allows certified minority- and women-owned businesses with OSD to use the Internet to begin the re-certification process. When the full Vendorstrator system is complete and operational, all certification and re-certification will be online. Today's update also includes an updated online directory of women- and minority-owned businesses. "This is a first step for the Office of Supplier Diversity toward integrating state-of-the-art technology into our daily operations and the services we provide," said Torey L. Alston, OSD director. "Vendorstrator allows us to provide faster services, which in this case also means better services, to our customers and improves our work processes." Alston expects that once Vendorstrator is fully implemented, OSD will significantly reduce the paper-heavy nature of its services. Not only will Vendorstrator enhance the customer service OSD provides, it will also help the environment. The Office of Supplier Diversity certifies 4,000 women- and minority-owned businesses in Florida and works to improve business and economic opportunities for them.
