Helen Cooper, Administrative Assistant III, Governor’s Commission on Disabilities

  • Cheryl Stone, Chair, called the meeting to order.
  • Susan Counts called the roll; all members were present, establishing a quorum.
  • The November 9 and December 4, 2007 minutes were approved.
  • The members discussed issues brought up at the December 4, 2007 meeting, including taxi vouchers, possibility of a statewide ID card, funding needs for a coordinated a state-wide system, tax incentives to provide accessible vehicles, accessible gas pumps, and handicapped parking abuse.
  • Committee Chair, Cheryl Stone, reiterated the need for hiring a facilitator/report writer to put together a report that the Commission is proud of.
  • Letters from the public were read into the record. The Chair requested that the letters be forwarded to the Transportation Disadvantaged Commission’s Ombudsman in the County where the correspondents live.
  • Lisa Bacot, Executive Director of the Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged, presented information to the Committee about her agency, including statistics relating to number of trips per year, average cost, and unmet needs. Members inquired about the biggest challenge for the T.D. Commission. Ms. Bacot responded that funding is the biggest challenge.
  • Members set the next meeting dates: January 8 and 22, 2008 from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. via teleconference. Each member was assigned a transportation topic to research and report back to the other members at the next Committee meeting.
  • The Committee listened to Public Comment.
  • The meeting adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
