Newsletter for Active Members

FRS Bulletin: Once or twice a year, the Division of Retirement distributes this newsletter to active members of the FRS Pension Plan to keep members informed of retirement legislation, benefit provisions, and other retirement-related news of interest. Current issues are listed below:

  • The Fall 2007 issue contains an article on the 2007 Retirement Legislation, plus a message from the Secretary of the Department of Management Services, Linda H. South. The issue also includes articles concerning Member Annual Statements, the total assets and liabilities of the FRS, and information on returning to work after retirement. Miscellaneous tips are provided to help you with both planning and saving for retirement. Finally, the newsletter provides Division contact information and a brief comparison of the FRS to other large public retirement systems throughout the country.
  • The Fall 2006 issue contains an article on the 2006 Retirement Legislation and brief items on Member Annual Statements, the Pension Protection Act of 2006, and the 2006 survey of FRS members, retirees, and employers. The issue includes a message from the Executive Director of the State Board of Administration on the management of FRS Trust Fund assets. This issue also includes an article about boosting your retirement income along with information about the FRS Financial Guidance Program. Finally, the newsletter provides a brief summary about the changes to the Division of Retirement's Web site and Division contact information.

Newsletter for Retired Members & Beneficiaries

FRS Retiree Newsletter: This newsletter is distributed to retirees and other beneficiaries of the FRS Pension Plan once or twice a year to keep them informed of retirement legislation, benefit provisions, and other retirement-related news of interest. Current issues are listed below:

  • The July 2008 issue contains information regarding the enhancement of the Online Services feature of our Web site, including how to establish your User Profile. There is also an article about the FRS Centenarian Club. Other brief articles discuss changes made during the 2008 Legislative Session, and the benefits of enrolling in Direct Deposit. Reminders are included about the cost-of-living adjustment payable with the July benefit, insurance premium deductions, the remaining 2008 benefit payment schedule, and information about DROP rollovers to the FRS Investment Plan.
  • The January 2008 issue contains articles and sidebars related to payment and taxation of benefits, including the 2008 benefit payment schedule and a description of the IRS 1099-R tax information forms mailed to retirees in January. Related information is provided regarding the retiree annual statement and the Health Insurance Subsidy. There is an article on the importance of keeping address information current. Other brief articles provide Division contact and Web site information, tax exclusion information for retired public safety officers, and information about DROP rollovers to the FRS Investment Plan.
  • The July 2007 issue contains an article about the security of your FRS Pension Plan benefits. Other brief articles discuss reemployment after retirement, FRS facts of interest, a new feature added to Retirement Online, and social security numbers of FRS members as they relate to the public records law exemption. Reminders are included about the cost-of-living adjustment payable with the July benefit, insurance premium deductions, the remaining 2007 benefit payment schedule, and Division contact information.
