HB 69 - [died in H Council] This bill by Representative Davis would have expanded the FRS Special Risk Class to include certain members employed as pilots or aerial applicators who are authorized to provide mosquito control services. Affected employees would qualify prospectively for the normal retirement date and retirement credit afforded members of this class. HB 87 - [died in H Committee] This bill by Representative Allen, over a two-year period, would increase the monthly Health Insurance Subsidy (HIS) benefit paid to eligible retirees and beneficiaries. Effective January 1, 2008, the HIS benefit would rise from $5 to $6 per month for each year of creditable service (minimum $36/month, maximum $180/month) and on January 1, 2009, it would rise to $7 per month (minimum $42/month, maximum $210/month). To fund the HIS improvements, on January 1, 2008, the employer HIS contribution rate would be raised from 1.11 percent to 1.75 percent of gross compensation. Back to top

Because the amount the member would have been charged for the credit would not have covered the full cost, the contribution rate paid by special risk employers for all members of the Special Risk Class would have been increased by 0.07 percent to subsidize the costs for the benefit improvement.
