Maximizing Limited Budget Dollars Through "Train the Trainer" Programs
Terrace Pavilion 1
Joe Peet, Training Manager
Department of Business and Professional Regulation
Tallahassee, FL

In this era of tightening budgets and expanding workloads state agencies are continuously looking for ways to stretch the limited budgets we have. We often have to contend with additional challenges of unfunded mandates and budget reduction "exercises." In light of this new reality and the knowledge that most agencies cannot grow additional resources, what can we do? During this workshop we will offer as one possibility the multiplication of one type of existing resource. This can be done through effective "Train-the-Trainer" programs. Some of the specific topics to be addressed include:

  • Identifying potential Facilitators/Trainers
  • Building the Facilitators Tool Kit
  • Maximizing the Facilitator's Effectiveness
  • Facilitator Evaluation

HR practitioners can exponentially increase their value to their agency by taking the lead in developing a "Train-the-Trainer program. By training subject matter experts in the skills of facilitating others to skill acquisition, they allow their agencies to multiply the number of qualified technicians at a greatly reduced cost as compared to contracting with outside vendors or even participating in a comprehensive internal formal training program.
