Ina Thompson Child Care Center
The Ina S. Thompson Child Development Center is located behind the Neil Kirkman Building at 2924 Apalachee Parkway in Tallahassee, Florida. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles sponsors the Center, which opened in 1986 as the State's pilot center. For the past 12 years, the Center has served state employees who work in the Kirkman Building, at nearby Koger Executive Center and at other state office buildings in the area.
The Center provides a safe, secure and stimulating environment designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each child. The curriculum provides the children with concrete experiences for learning and integrates age-appropriate activities to enhance the total development of the child - physical, emotional, social and cognitive.
The Center has a licensed capacity of 99 children and serves infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Each class has a written plan and daily schedule which includes varied developmental activities, quiet and active periods, indoor and outdoor play and rest periods. The daily program provides meaningful activities and experiences geared to the age and developmental level of the individual child as well as the total group. The program invites children to create, explore, experiment, and discover a love for learning!
The Center has a strong parent organization that encourages parent involvement and communication. Parents are provided regular child progress reports and a quarterly newsletter detailing current center events. Center management works closely with the parent organization and DHSMV management to promote and encourage parent involvement in the Center and to resolve any parent concerns about the Center.
