Highways to Tomorrow Child Care Center
Department of Transportation, District 1,
801 N. Broadway, Bartow, Florida
Highways to Tomorrow, the child care facility at the Florida Department of Transportation District One headquarters in Bartow, opened Sept. 26, 2003. The center is licensed for 100 children, ages 6 weeks to 5 years.
Highways to Tomorrow is a developmental center that provides a full-day program from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. designed to encourage and enrich social skills, language development, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, self-esteem, respect, responsibility, resourcefulness, and creativity. The center provides hands-on learning experiences that consider the whole child, attempting to help the child develop in a balanced manner at his/her own internal pace.
The foundation for discovery and logical thinking is developed in a preschooler through play and hands-on activities. It is through appropriate play and hands-on activities that children are given the opportunity and the time to ask their own questions and figure out their own answers. They become explorers, discoverers, problem-solvers, and inventors. Ultimately, and excitedly, they are responsible for their own learning.
Our teachers are dedicated to provide an environment that promotes positive role modeling, support, nurturing, warmth and responsive care to meet individual needs. They are caring and loving with children. Our teachers will provide a purposeful program for your child that will help them develop to their full capacities as a whole individual. Our teachers are trained to advance the physical and intellectual competence of each child, while supporting their social and emotional development.
Open to FDOT employees first, as well as employees of other state, county, and local governments, the child care center is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. It is closed on state holidays. Rates are:
- $220.50 bi-weekly for infants;
- $186.00 for all other ages.
