Fleet regularly holds auctions of surplus vehicles. These auctions are open to the public, and some frequently asked questions regarding auctions are answered below.

  1. How do I find out what is available for sale?

    You may check the auction inventory at tmauction.com, the website for the State's auctioneer, Tampa Machinery Auction, Inc.

  2. Do I get a title to a vehicle at the sale site, or is it mailed later?

    Yes, for almost all vehicles you will get the title at the sale site.

  3. Do I have to remove official decals?

    Yes!

  4. Do I have to repaint a marked Law Enforcement vehicle ?

    Only the Florida Highway Patrol vehicles must be repainted.

  5. Can I test drive the vehicle?

    No, you can start a vehicle, but not drive it.

  6. Can I get on a mailing list for upcoming auctions?

    The State's contracted auctioneer maintains an "auction participation list". If you register as a bidder at an auction, your name will be added to this list and you will be mailed a brochure for auctions held in that area.

  7. What about sales tax ?

    Sales tax will be collected at the time of sale by the State's contracted auctioneer.

  8. Is there a charge to register as a bidder or to make a purchase?

    No.

  9. Where are the auctions held?

    All auctions are held at Tampa Machinery Auction, 11720 HWY 301 North, Thonotosassa, FL  33592 on the second Saturday of each month.

  10. How many vehicles are sold in an auction?

    Between 250 and 425

  11. How many people usually attend auctions?

    Approximately 500 people register to bid at each auction.

  12. What about confiscated vehicles?

    A limited number of confiscated vehicles and watercraft are sold each year. Confiscated vehicles are sold with and in the same manner as state vehicles.

  13. Is it possible to buy a late model car or truck for $200.00?

    No, vehicles are generally sold around the NADA wholesale value, depending on overall condition and mileage.

  14. Do I have to be a dealer to attend auctions?

    No, sale is open to the general public and dealers.
