Workspace Management Initiative
As directed by the 2002 Legislature, the Department of Management Services conducted an assessment of state-occupied office space, and it is estimated that Florida's government occupies more than 17 million square feet of office space throughout the state. Approximately 10 million square feet is leased and the remaining 7 million square feet are in state-owned facilities. As a result, several recommendations have been made - including the centralization of leasing functions, codification of space use standards and the strategic management of state assets - which will allow us to achieve significant savings in recurring revenue that can then be better utilized providing the critical services upon which the people of Florida depend.
