Open Enrollment for State of Florida employees and retirees ends next Friday
Make changes today to your benefits for 2010. You have until 5:30 p.m. Eastern time, October 9. Learn more at http://www.myflorida.com/mybenefits/Health/Medical_Plans/Annual_Enrollment2010.htm.

Living Green Tip – Have your pasta and eat it, too!

Use less water to cook pasta and save energy and time. You can get away with boiling a pound of pasta with only 1.5 quarts of water, rather than the back-of-the-box recommended four to six quarts. Be sure to stir more to make sure it cooks evenly.

According to IdealBite.com, heating pasta and water together from the start (instead of waiting for the water to boil first) saves six minutes … depending how much pasta you eat in a year, that adds up to some serious time-savings!

If all Americans use less water and put the pasta in the pot from the beginning, we could save 500,000 barrels of oil per year (energy used to boil the billion pounds of pasta we make each year).
