GOVERNOR SIGNS SENATE BILL 2666 – INCREASING EFFICIENCY IN THE STATE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

TALLAHASSEE—Today Governor Crist signed Senate Bill 2666, sponsored by Sen. Mike Haridopolos and Rep. Steve Crisafulli bolstering Florida’s economic development by launching construction projects faster with less bureaucratic hurdles. This move increases efficiencies and reduces administrative costs to the state’s construction management process.

The bill, which authorizes continuing contracts with construction management entities, will allow one competitively procured contract manager to handle several small projects at one time. Larger construction projects continue to be bid out on a case-by-case basis. This policy change brings Florida in line with local government entities currently utilizing the construction management method.

“I am proud that the Legislature saw the value in Senate Bill 2666 – this will provide an efficient and streamlined process for state construction projects while continuing the competitive and fair process for spending that tax payers deserve,” said Sen. Haridopolos.

“This legislation allows state and public agencies to act more quickly in acquiring construction management services and deliver best value construction to the State of Florida,” said Rep. Steve Crisafulli. “I want Florida’s taxpayer dollars to be used as efficiently and effectively as possible, and this bill will help ensure that is happening.”

“The Governor’s action yesterday provides the public with better value for their tax dollars spent on state construction projects,” said Department of Management Services Secretary, Linda H. South. “Thanks to the efforts of Sen. Haridopolos and Rep. Crisafulli we can reduce delays in the delivery process by four to six months.”
