~Award recognizes excellence in public procurement~
TALLAHASSEE -The Department of Management Services (DMS) Division of State Purchasing received its sixth Achievement of Excellence in Procurement® (AEP) award, earning five in a row since 2004. The National Purchasing Institute uses standardized criteria to award the prestigious AEP annually to organizations that demonstrate excellence. Awards were presented today at the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP) 63rd Annual Forum in Charlotte, N.C.
"Floridians can be proud of the Division of State Purchasing and the great accomplishments of that team," said DMS Secretary Linda H. South. "The Achievement of Excellence in Procurement® validates the innovation and leadership our state purchasing professionals give to Florida government every day. Receiving this over multiple years demonstrates the high standards we maintain."
The National Purchasing Institute established the program in 1995 to recognize organizational excellence in public procurement with criteria that measure innovation, professionalism, productivity, e-procurement and leadership attributes of the procurement organization. The Florida state purchasing team did not attend this year's annual forum. Award sponsors include the National Purchasing Institute, NIGP, the Florida Association of Public Purchasing Officers and the National Association of State Procurement Officials.
"The award is open to all levels of government and all sizes of organizations," said State Purchasing Director Charles Covington. "Our MyFloridaMarketPlace is state-of-the-art in e-procurement and is just one example of the great things we are doing in the State of Florida that gives us this level of recognition."
