6/11/08 Governor Crist Approves 2008-09 State Budget

TALLAHASSEE - Governor Charlie Crist signed the fiscal year 2008-09 budget today allocating $611 million to bolster state human resource services, facilities management and enterprise information technology services for the Department of Management Services to better serve those who serve Florida.

"Today Governor Crist is leading Florida by approving the state's budget, which reflects some tough decisions made by lawmakers to not compromise services for our citizens," said Department of Management Services Secretary Linda H. South. "We must be wise with each and every dollar, and this year's budget means expanded health insurance, protection of our natural resources and services for families struggling with autism."

Highlights of the Department of Management Services' 2008-09 approved budget include the following:

State Employee Benefits

  • During fiscal year 2008-09, state employees continue to access affordable, quality health insurance with no premium increases or changes in covered services.

State Facilities

  • The Department of Management Services will begin construction on new, energy-efficient office facilities for the Department of Revenue and the First District Court of Appeals. The facilities will have Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Ratings, consist of two, five-story buildings and one two-story building for the Department of Revenue with 412,603 square feet. The First District Court of Appeals facility is 96,000 square feet.

Shared Resource Center

  • Puts the management of the state's Shared Resource Center, which houses a number of the state's technology services, into the hands of an independent customer-presented appointed board.
