~ State and local officials discuss statewide wireless initiatives and the roles of state and federal government~

TALLAHASSEE - Communications and Information Technology Services, a division of the Department of Management Services, in partnership with the Wireless Internet Institute (W2i), presented the W2i Digital Cities Joint State Briefing today in Tallahassee March 26, 2008. Held at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center, the event convenes top wireless experts and public officials to discuss the future of broadband initiatives throughout the state.

"Florida recognizes the major role that wireless plays in the future, not only for state government and public safety, but also for rural access and economic development," said Charles Ghini, Director of Telecommunications and Radio Services, and conference co-chair. "With Florida's resources increasing for wireless communication, this is a perfect time for our capital city to host this critical meeting."

This day-long thought-leadership forum centers on community broadband-wireless initiatives around Florida bringing together local-government field practitioners, state-level officials and industry experts. Discussion focuses on topics ranging from leading application drivers to the roles of state and federal government in facilitating these initiatives. Ghini will speak at 11:30 a.m. about the state's role in the future of wireless, including locating future opportunities, how funds are administered and the challenges in supporting broadband initiatives.

The conference is free to public employees and provides an opportunity for broadband wireless project stakeholders to share experiences with their peers and advance their knowledge in the fast evolving field of digital cities and wireless-enabled applications.
