7/13/07 Statement Regarding Governor Crist's Initiative to Reduce Greenhouse Emissions

Statement by Department of Management Services Secretary Linda H. South Regarding Governor Crist's Initiative to Reduce Greenhouse Emissions

"Our governor cares about Florida's future and what could be more important to our future than the quality of air and our impact on the environment? The best way to foster a sustainable change in the way we do business is to lead by example. Today, Governor Crist as CEO of the state's largest single enterprise committed Florida's state government to reduce its carbon footprint.

The Department of Management Services will accomplish this important task for the people of Florida. As we manage 16.8 million square feet of real estate and the state's mechanical fleet, we will take aggressive conservation measures to make us wise stewards with both our economic and environmental resources. We stand with the Department of Environmental Protection, the Public Service Commission, the Department of Transportation and our other sister agencies in assuming Florida reaches the goals Governor Crist challenged us with today."
