DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT SERVICES CELEBRATES

TAKE OUR DAUGHTERS AND SONS TO WORK DAY

~Children learn the benefit of balancing work and family lives~

TALLAHASSEE - The Florida Department of Management Services today celebrated Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. More than 100 employees and their children participated in events and activities including tours of the state airplanes and the governor's mansion - state property managed by the agency.

"Today, parents have an opportunity to teach their children a valuable life lesson about the workplace," said Governor Charlie Crist. "Each and every person plays an important role in the economic success of Florida. We should encourage children to explore their interests and identify what they love to do so that in the future, they will join our workforce and contribute to this great state."

Earlier this month, Governor Crist signed a proclamation honoring April 26, 2007 as Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. The event began in 1993, when the Ms. Foundation launched the program and asked Americans to take their daughters to work, so young women would become more visible, valued and heard in society. Now, both boys and girls participate and learn how work, family and community life intersect.

"Never before has it been more important to teach children the power and possibilities of having a rewarding career," said Secretary Linda H. South. "Our team at the Department of Management Services is important to the success of Florida. It's important for our children to see that mom and dad have a critical role-from airplanes to air conditioners-to keep the state running smoothly.

Following the airplane and mansion tours, children will spend the afternoon in the office helping their family members and learning about the agency. They also have the opportunity to receive a Department of Management Services identification badge.
